Abstract:   Our work aims at building a modeling platform for multi-scale ocean-atmosphere coupled simulations. This platform is based on the ocean model NEMO interfaced to WRF through the OASIS coupler. The domain configuration is a tropical channel with a latitudinal extent of 45°S-45°N. This configuration has been chosen to build a hierarchy of coupled simulations with oceanic and atmospheric resolutions of 81, 27 and 9 km. The arrival, early 2012, of “Curie”, a Bullx peta-scale machine, offers us the unique opportunity to set-up and run simulations at the highest target resolution (9km). This presentation will first present the technical challenges we had to resolve in order to perform these simulations on more than 10 000 cores. We will detail the choices we made in terms of parallelisation, IO strategy and coupling interface to achieve the best scalability. These results illustrate the performances and flexibility offered by OASIS to couple different executables with their own specific constrains. We will next present the first results of these simulations and their potential to explore a multitude of scientific questions."
