Dr. Nico Sanna

Nico Sanna born in Rome (Italy) on July 9th, 1960 and in February 1990 he received the Doctorate (Laurea) in Chemistry at the University of Rome "La Sapienza". In 1980 he was recruited in the chemical industry and in 1990 he ended this experience as head of the R&D laboratory and Quality Assurance service of the Kempro S.p.A. in Rome. In 1990-1992 he held three grants from IBM and NIC (Numerically Intensive Computing) Academic Consortium for a series of findings on porting highly CPU demanding codes over parallel and vector architectures in the main fields of computational chemistry. During this period he attended several courses and workshops on Parallel Processing and High Performance Computing. From 1991 to 1992 he was granted of several research stages at the Supercomputer Computational Research Institute of the Florida State University (SCRI-FSU) and at the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) for research involving development of new set of codes (serial and parallel) for studies of scattering processes of electrons from polyatomic molecules. Since January 1993 he has held a permanent position as Chief Technology Manager at CASPUR, a MIUR Consortium of eleven Italian Universities for supercomputing research. He has organized several conferences and workshops and has been invited speaker in many international meetings on HPC and its applications in computational (bio)chemistry. At present, he is co-chair of the CASPUR HPC sector, a group of thirty graduate scientists and technologists to support research activities in the area of computational sciences. N. Sanna is author of more than 100 papers published on international journals to cover the area of technological advances in computational (bio)chemical-physics and HPC and is member in the Computational Chemistry Board of the Physical Chemistry Division at the Italian Chemical Society (SCI), member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and since 2009 is Specialist Editor of the Computer Physics Communication journal published by Elsevier.
