Kim Cupps

High Performance Computing Division Leader, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Kimberly Cupps is the Livermore Computing (LC) Division Leader at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories and the Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) Program Leader for Facilities, Operations and User Support. Cupps leads a staff of 100 High Performance Computing (HPC) specialists in delivering computing cycles, system software, services, innovative architectures, and computer science expertise in support of LLNL research scientists and their missions. As the Sequoia Project Manager, Cupps leads the ASC planning and deployment effort for the 20 PetaFLOP BlueGene/Q Sequoia system. Cupps was also the BlueGene/L Integration Project Leader at LLNL.

Cupps has more than 20 years of R&D experience in management and technical roles at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. LLNL management positions include leading the LLNL IT Division, the High Performance Archival Storage Group, the Production Linux Group, and the Supervisory Controls and Operations group of computer scientists and engineers in support of the Atomic Vapor Laser Isotope Separation program. Prior to LLNL, Cupps worked for IBM developing international trunk signaling software for telephony applications. Cupps has a BA in Applied Mathematics and a MS in Computer Science. She serves as a member of the CSU Chico Computer Science Advisory Board and has served on numerous technical review committees for HPC centers around the nation.
